Firefighters of the Kwara State Fire Service were on Saturday attacked while responding to a distress call.
The firefighters were responding to a distress call as one of the Ministry of Environment’s buses was on fire at the Adeta Roundabout in Ilorin, the state capital.
Spokesman of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in a statement in Ilorin on Saturday, said, “Upon arrival at the scene, our firefighters were unexpectedly attacked by a mob.
“This unprovoked assault disrupted emergency operations and resulted in the windshield of our fire appliance being damaged.
“Fortunately, no firefighter sustained any injuries during the incident.”
Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, strongly condemned the act of violence against emergency responders and urged all citizens of the state to remain law-abiding and peaceful.
He said the fire service remains committed to protecting lives and property and appealed to the public for support and cooperation during emergency operations..
