It was tears and anguish on Monday morning as a family buried eleven members killed in Edikwu Ankpali, Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, by suspected herdsmen.
Daily POST reports that armed herdsmen stormed the area on Sunday evening, opening fire on residents, killing over 25 people and abducting several others.
The attack reportedly lasted for hours without any intervention from security operatives.
Edikwu is a few kilometres from Ugbokpo town, the headquarters of Apa LGA.
Reacting to the incident, a member of the family, Ben Ekah, said: “Burying 11 family members in my village, Ankpali, Apa LGA, is the most agonizing moment for the community today. We are completely overwhelmed and devastated, leaving scores in hospital and thousands deserting the community.”
Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command PRO, Edet Udeme, has refused to respond to several messages from this newspaper requesting a comment.
