Kano: NDLEA arrests 36, recovers illicit drugs in Sallah operation

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State has arrested 36 people during a special operation ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The agency’s spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, shared this in a statement on Sunday.

He said the arrests were made during a two-day raid in different parts of the state.

According to him, the operation was carried out on May 30 and 31 in areas such as Makabartar Dan’agundi, Kwari, Kofar Na’isa, and Kano Line.

He said the state commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, led the operation to ensure a peaceful and drug-free celebration in the state.

“We arrested 36 suspects and recovered different types of illegal drugs, including cannabis sativa, ‘suck and die’, diazepam, rubber solution, and others,” the statement said.

Mr. Idris-Ahmad thanked the officers who took part in the raid and called on the people of Kano to celebrate responsibly.

“On behalf of the Chairman and CEO of the agency, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retired), we send our best wishes to the good people of Kano for a safe and drug-free Sallah celebration,” he added.

He also warned against selling or using drugs and asked residents to report anyone involved in drug-related crimes.
