In a widely circulated statement on Monday, Sani—who has long been a vocal critic of El-Rufai—claimed the ex-governor’s controversial legacy during his tenure in Kaduna State played a key role in the decision. He alleged that El-Rufai’s administration failed to address insecurity, which he said became the hallmark of his governance over eight years.
The former senator, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC), asserted that El-Rufai’s past record disqualified him from criticising the current administration. According to Sani, “his eight years as governor represent the worst era in the history of Kaduna State.”
He further condemned recent political remarks made by El-Rufai, branding them as “toxic” and indicative of deep-seated resentment following his exclusion from Tinubu’s cabinet.
“The administration El-Rufai and Amaechi served enabled the conditions that led to widespread hunger and insecurity,” Sani said, in an apparent reference to the Buhari government. “El-Rufai is the godfather of insecurity and the patriarch of banditry in Northern Nigeria. He was considered too toxic to be part of Tinubu’s government, and that is why he was left out.”
According to Sani, the former governor’s public criticism of the Tinubu administration stems from bitterness over his non-inclusion and a “sense of failed entitlement.”
Sani also accused El-Rufai of deepening poverty during his time as governor by retrenching thousands of civil servants and demolishing homes belonging to poor residents and retirees, further worsening hardship across the state. WATCH FULL VIDEO
