Tension as Bus Loaded with Traders Returning from Market Ambushed, Suspected Herdsmen Kidnap Many (Video)

According to Vanguard news,a bus full of traders coming from Orie Orba Market in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State was attacked on Saturday evening at about 7 p.m.

The unfortunate incident happened along the Owukpa–Orokam road in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State. The bus was hijacked by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

In addition, reporters revealed that,most of the people on the bus were women and the attackers stopped the bus, took several female passengers, and disappeared into the nearby bushes. Young girls and older women were among those kidnapped.

One woman was badly injured after being shot by the attackers and because she was bleeding heavily, the victim kidnappers left her behind. She was later rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital in Okpoga, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.

As of Sunday morning, the families of the kidnapped women had not received any calls or messages from the kidnappers. This has caused great fear and confusion among their relatives and the local community.

The leader of the local vigilante group in Owukpa confirmed the attack,saying that security teams in the area are already working to find and rescue the missing women.

Local vigilantes and other security forces are now searching the forests and surrounding areas in hopes of locating the kidnappers’ hideout.

The incident really broke the hearts of many people in the region, especially traders who travel often along that road.

Community leaders are calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent action to improve safety on the roads and stop further attacks.

As of now, the situation remains tense, and the search for the kidnapped victims continues.
