Reactions As Amaechi Thanks Wike for Helping Him Become Rivers State Governor in Resurfaced Speech (Video)

A resurfaced statement from 2007 by former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has added fuel to the ongoing political feud with Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The comments, shared by Viable TV on Facebook, reveal Amaechi crediting Wike for his governorship victory, a stark contrast to his recent denial of offering Wike a significant political role.

In the 2007 statement, made after Amaechi’s Supreme Court victory that confirmed him as governor, he expressed gratitude to Wike, saying, “I owe two people gratitude for contributing to my emergence as governor of Rivers State. First, to God Almighty. Secondly, to my brother and friend Nyesom Wike who fought tirelessly and made me reclaim my stolen mandate. I will always be grateful to him because he is a true brother and friend.”

This acknowledgment sharply contradicts Amaechi’s recent claims on Arise News, where he distanced himself from Wike’s political rise. Amaechi had stated, “I wanted him as chief of staff so I could supervise him. I didn’t offer him commissioner for finance,” and further remarked, “You know, he made himself chief of staff. He made himself governor. He made himself minister.” These comments followed a tweet by Lere Olayinka questioning Amaechi’s narrative, noting that Fred Kpakol served as Finance Commissioner under Wike’s administration, implying Amaechi’s involvement.
