“Their Cups Will Soon Be Full” — IGP Egbetokun Issues Stern Warning to Activists Criticizing Police

According to Symfoni TV, The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a strong warning to individuals and groups he described as hiding “under the cloak of activism” to malign the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP made the statement during an address to senior police officers, emphasizing renewed strategic efforts and reforms aimed at enhancing professionalism, accountability, and public trust within the Force.

In a no-holds-barred statement, Egbetokun said, “Do not be distracted by the false narratives being peddled by enemies of Nigeria, some of whom hide under the cloak of activism to distort our work and demoralize our officers. Those who profit from instability and crisis will not relent in their efforts to instigate chaos, but I assure you their cup will be full one day.”

The police chief highlighted operational and logistical improvements across commands facing high-risk threats. He revealed that internal supervision mechanisms have been reinforced and logistics fast-tracked to improve crime response, coordination, and stakeholder engagement. “This is part of our commitment to building a more professional, responsive, and citizen-focused police force,” he said.

Egbetokun called on senior officers to redouble their efforts, stating, “Treat every crime as an attack on the soul of our nation. Patrols must be proactive. Let intelligence drive every deployment.”

He further urged enhanced synergy among security agencies including the military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). “No single agency can fight crime alone. Strengthen interagency cooperation and adopt a whole-of-society approach,” he instructed.

Addressing public concerns over police misconduct, the IGP reaffirmed zero tolerance for corruption and abuse. “Any form of police misconduct will not be tolerated,” he said, encouraging citizens to report incidents via official channels including the Complaints Response Unit and verified digital platforms.

In closing, Egbetokun emphasized that the police must win both the operational and moral battle. “I encourage citizens to report cases of extortion, abuse, or unprofessional conduct through our established channels, including the Complaints Response Unit, your respective state command commissioners of police, SONA AIGs, and our verified digital platforms. Your feedback remains crucial to our achieving civil communities. Distinguished officers, the road ahead is not without its hurdles, and neither is it devoid of hope.” he concluded.
