This development validates the position of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), which proceeded to conduct fresh elections in February 2025.
In a statewide broadcast following the judgment, OSSIEC Chairman, Hashim Abioye, Esq., stated that today’s verdict confirms there was no legal reinstatement of officials from the 2022 elections, countering claims by the APC and others. He alleged attempts by some political actors—backed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun—to frustrate the 2025 elections under a false “no vacancy” narrative.
Abioye revealed that despite the sealing of OSSIEC’s office by police on the eve of the February election, the Commission successfully conducted the polls through proactive measures. He declared the winners of the February 22, 2025 local government elections as the only legitimate officeholders, cautioning the public and authorities against recognizing any other persons.
Calling the Court’s decision a “vindication,” Abioye emphasized that the AGF and IGP owe Osun people an apology for their roles in obstructing the democratic process.
“The siege is now over,” he declared, expressing gratitude to stakeholders and citizens for their patience and support.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
