Iran is urgently trying to de-escalate its escalating conflict with Israel. The Wall Street Journal was informed by a number of diplomatic sources that Tehran has been communicating with Washington and Tel Aviv through the backchannel in recent days. These allegedly “urgent” communications are a part of Iran’s apparent attempt to keep the situation from degenerating into a full-scale regional conflict.

According to reports by The Telegraph on Monday, June 16, Iran is urgently seeking to de-escalate its growing conflict with Israel and has expressed willingness to resume nuclear negotiations provided the United States refrains from joining Israel’s military campaign, according to officials familiar with the matter.

Multiple diplomatic sources told The Wall Street Journal that Tehran has been sending a flurry of backchannel messages to both Washington and Tel Aviv in recent days. These communications, described as “urgent,” are part of an apparent effort by Iran to prevent the situation from spiraling into a full-scale regional war.

According to the report, Iranian officials are signaling a readiness to return to the negotiating table to discuss limitations on its nuclear programme. However, this willingness hinges on one major condition: that the United States does not directly involve itself in Israel’s ongoing military strikes on Iranian targets. The messages also included warnings to Israel, urging restraint and arguing that it would be in the interests of both nations to avoid further escalation. Tehran reportedly emphasized that continued hostilities would be mutually destructive and urged dialogue as a path to stability.

Following Israel’s latest series of airstrikes targeting Iranian military installations, nuclear infrastructure, and important government institutions, including the state broadcaster, which was hit during a live broadcast, tensions between Iran and Israel have escalated to unprecedented levels. Since Friday, Iran has responded with several retaliation missile strikes on Israeli territory, causing extensive damage and numerous fatalities. In recent days, hundreds of injuries and at least 24 fatalities have been reported by Israeli authorities.

International pressure for de-escalation is growing in spite of the bloodshed. In order to arbitrate between the two enemies and stop a wider confrontation from breaking out, diplomatic efforts are currently being made in Europe and the Gulf. President Donald Trump said earlier this week that Iran is suddenly indicating a readiness to talk, but that time is running out. The United States has not officially responded to the alleged signals.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
