Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president of Nigeria, has ordered the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police Force, and other security services to use innovative tactics to reduce insecurity throughout the nation in response to the recent spike in instability. Approximately three hundred members of Benue State’s Yelewata hamlet were reportedly declared dead on the evening of June 13, 2025, following vicious attacks on the community by suspected Fulani herdsmen that claimed many lives and damaged many more.

One of the attack survivors, Elder Amos, claimed that his world ended the night of the attack. He described how he and his third son had survived the massacre, but his wife and other children had not been so fortunate, as they perished during the assault. “I escaped with my third son,” he said.
