Many Nigerians may relate to her honest narrative, which was caught by Nolly Gift TV, since it depicts the hardships and victories of a strong woman led by her religion.

In front of an enthralled audience, Ekene revealed facets of her life that included numerous academic failures, unsuccessful romantic engagements, and the social pressures that almost forced her into an early marriage. She once talked about how, at the age of 15, suitors began vying for her hand in marriage. She called this a turning point in her life where she felt like she was being forced into a mould she knew wasn’t made for her.

She described falling behind academically and wasting four years attempting to get into a university while her colleagues were already graduating. Even though they routinely scored higher than 200 on entrance exams, they were never admitted. As her father’s frustration increased, he started to wonder if going to school was the proper course for her. He had suggested that she get married and go to school later, saying, “Maybe school is not your thing.”

After gaining admission, Ekene pursued studies in medicine and surgery, but Nollywood was her true calling. But this ran counter to the relationship she had fostered, which ended suddenly when her then-fiance insisted that she give up acting. She declined, preferring her mission to the ease of fitting in. She characterised her mother as her steadfast pillar of support, a woman who maintained her ground when Ekene couldn’t, prayed, and prophesied. She remembered how her mother had thwarted a marriage proposal because she believed it would sabotage her daughter’s heavenly destiny. After numerous rejections, setbacks, and near-death experiences, she finally made her breakthrough.

She persisted despite being told she didn’t belong in Nollywood and attending church every day. She explained her conviction that her gift was heavenly and that she could not sacrifice it for consolation or praise by saying, “Talent is spiritual.” In what turned became the story’s emotional high point, Ekene described how her father offered her a hard ultimatum because he was so upset that she had chosen to pursue Nollywood over a stable marriage. He threatened to disown her if she kept going in that direction. “I said, ‘Okay sir,’ after my father threatened to disown me,” she concluded calmly, underscoring her resolve to follow her talent and avoid marriage at the moment.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
