This was a stunning court victory. After a one-night meeting at the Hilton Hotel’s Steam Bar in Paddington, London, in 2015, the story started. What was supposed to be a brief adult get-together was swiftly turned into a nightmare.
The court determined that Chia had a deliberate vendetta against Ogunkanmi, tormenting him with false allegations of everything from drugging and rape to child molestation and bribery. Using Instagram accounts like @cindylicious11 and @rapist_trying_to_avoid_justice, she bombarded social media with false accusations and even denounced him to many law enforcement organisations, such as the Met Police and Dubai authorities. She tried, but all of her claims were rejected. In 2017, Ogunkanmi willingly returned for interrogation, and UK police exonerated him of any suspicion. Chia continued, however, breaking restraining orders and intensifying her internet attack. Ogunkanmi told the court, “She tried to extort me.” He described how Chia first made demands for money, threatened to damage his name, then attacked his coworker, Prisca Okoye, whom she was eventually found guilty of assaulting.
Judge Susie Alegre declared that there was “not a scintilla of truth” in Chia’s defamatory remarks, calling her conduct “horrific and malicious.” Chia is subject to an order prohibiting more harassment in addition to the £25,000 punishment. The court predicated its decision on minor reputational loss within the UK, despite Ogunkanmi’s initial demand for £120,000 in damages. The father of three, however, was relieved. “Lies can cost you your life, your job, and your family,” he added. “I feel at peace with this ruling, but social media companies need to do more to prevent this kind of abuse.”…CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
