Felix spent €52 million to join Chelsea last summer, but he didn’t have much of an impact. He started just three Premier League games before being loaned to AC Milan in January.
He didn’t leave a lasting impression during his brief tenure at Milan. Even though Felix has six years left on his deal, Chelsea is keen to let him go, according to Footballtransfers. Due to either little interest or financially unviable bids, the club had trouble finding qualified buyers. Negotiations have advanced significantly, and Benfica is hopeful that Felix will be re-signed in the next few hours. Following a meeting today between Benfica authorities, including president Rui Costa, and Felix’s representatives, notably Jorge Mendes, the urgency of the agreement grew. Although Benfica first contemplated a loan, their current goal is to permanently buy Felix. At this point, the deal’s financial specifics are kept under wraps.
Felix was a member of Chelsea’s so-called “bomb squad,” a group of players not currently included in Enzo Maresca’s first-team plans, so Chelsea supporters are probably pleased to see him go. While players like Axel Disasi, Carney Chukwuemeka, and David Datro Fofana may all face unclear futures this summer, Ben Chilwell, Armando Broja, and Raheem Sterling are all looking for new teams. Felix joined Chelsea after an outstanding loan stint in 2022–2023, which at first persuaded the team to buy him on a long-term basis. He had greater success in cup tournaments against lower-tier opponents, though, since his Premier League performances fell short of expectations.
