The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal revealed that Warburton plotted a brutal assault against her former partner, Inspector Don McKay of the Queensland Police, with whom she had been in a relationship from March 2020 to early 2021.
According to the tribunal ruling published last week, Warburton solicited a patient, Andrew Bown, to carry out the attack, believing he might be willing to commit the violent act. Between April and October 2021, she provided him with photographs of McKay and his residence and handed him $3,000 to execute the plan.
Tribunal member Julie Dick detailed Warburton’s chilling instructions, which included cutting off McKay’s penis and tongue, pouring acid on his face, severing his spine to paralyze him, or breaking every bone in his body so he could neither walk nor talk. The scheme was only halted following Warburton’s arrest.
Warburton pleaded guilty to attempting to procure grievous bodily harm and soliciting a malicious act with intent. She was sentenced to five years in prison, with 16 months to be served before being eligible for release.
In proceedings before the health tribunal, Warburton did not contest the allegations of professional misconduct for involving a patient in the violent plot. As part of the tribunal’s decision, the four-year ban includes the time already spent in custody.
“The tribunal recognises the gravity of the offence and the professional consequences that now follow,” Dick stated. “Warburton will face considerable hurdles should she seek to return to the healthcare profession.”
Bown, her co-conspirator, was convicted in November 2022 of arson, attempting to procure grievous bodily harm, and possessing a dangerous item intended for a criminal act. He received a sentence of three-and-a-half years in prison….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
