On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Sun reported that the woman, Cynthia Chukwunda, 25, is a University of Port Harcourt 300-level student. On July 5, 2025, a fire broke out in her room, killing Saint Sunny Amadi, the man she was in a tumultuous relationship with, from serious burns. Cynthia has burns on her body and is presently in the hospital. Cynthia claimed that because of persistent problems, she and Sunny had not been together for months. According to her, they had previously experienced a lot of issues, and even their relatives had suggested that they break up. She added that she was now being courted by another person.
Cynthia claimed that she went out of her room to retrieve something the night of the event. She doesn’t use candles, so she was shocked to see one glowing when she returned. Sunny later came back with a plastic bottle, which she later discovered contained petrol. Cynthia claimed that she attempted to eject him from the house after a fight. The room caught fire after Sunny unintentionally pushed the bottle in the direction of the candle, causing an explosion.
