The speaker in a video message released by TVC from a Brakchat prison centre urged the Nigerian government and international organisations to act immediately.
“The inmates are forced to survive on contaminated resources and expired food,” the detainee said, describing the situation. We have been here since February, going through a variety of penalties. We even get our drinking water from the toilet. He remarked, “The food we eat here is expired macaroni without any sauce, salt, or pepper.” The meals, which he said “even dogs cannot eat in our country,” are shared among six people per bowl, which he further bemoaned as being woefully insufficient for survival.
Nigerians are “dying here in numbers as a result of malnourishment and illnesses rising from the environment and the poor condition of this place,” he explained, adding that the inmates had been “tormented since February.” Even the United Nations has not responded, the speaker said, expressing irritation over the absence of international control. According to him, “not even the so-called UN, which is supposed to be supervising and monitoring the affairs of people here, come here to check the welfare of people here.” Stressing that additional killings could occur within the Libyan prison facility if the authorities remain silent, he called on the Nigerian government to intervene before more people are killed…CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
