How It Started
On August 5, 2025, an incident occurred during the boarding process of a ValueJet flight, VK 201 from the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, to Lagos, when Fuji singer KWAM 1 attempted to board the aircraft carrying a flask with a liquid substance, which allegedly contained alcohol. According to reports, the singer was instructed not to board by aviation security and the flight captain, Captain Oluranti, as it violated the National Civil Aviation Security Programme and international regulations regarding liquids on flights.
During the altercation, KWAM 1 was said to have allegedly blocked the aircraft from taxiing to the runway, thereby posing a security risk. Meanwhile, Captain Ogoyi had closed the aircraft door and instructed her co-pilot to initiate departure without ensuring that the singer had moved away, leading to a near-collision and endangering ground personnel and airport users.
Following her action, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) swiftly suspended the licenses of Captain Ogoyi and her co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, citing a breach of safety protocols: initiating departure without mandatory ground control clearance and taxiing while ground personnel were present.
