In a powerful talk, he emphasised the sacred responsibility of maintaining order in God’s sanctuary and yielding to spiritual authority. Addressing churchgoers, employees, and his spiritual mentees personally, Kumuyi warned against the dangers of challenging authority. Respecting spiritual authority at all levels is crucial, he underlined. During the sermon, he asserted that “you don’t go up against your shepherd, your pastor, or the one leading you towards heaven.”
When Kumuyi compared church leadership to a pilot flying an aviation, he made a powerful analogy. He explained that just as passengers wouldn’t take over from a plane in midair, Christians shouldn’t attempt to take over the spiritual guidance of their leaders. “Any member, worker, or spiritual child who tries to take over or control my calling, I renounce,” he declared. Make it known openly and plainly. He clarified that this firm stance was not personal but rather required to safeguard the divine structure that governs the ministry. “People should continue to be teachable and obedient,” Kumuyi emphasised. “My calling is from God; I cannot let anyone guide me spiritually.”
The pastor also warned against becoming too close to leaders, saying that doing so often leads to anarchy and shame. According to him, being a ministry leader is a heavenly commandment that cannot be compromised or swayed by one’s own preferences.
