After considering her previous relationships, the 45-year-old singer came to the conclusion that what she had formerly mistakenly believed to be love was really infatuation. She acknowledged that, in spite of her repeated attempts, she has never known romantic love like she feels for her child. “I’ve never felt true love except with my son,” Tiwa said, expressing doubt on whether romantic love is destined for her. I’ve come to the realisation that my marriage and other relationships weren’t based on love. Perhaps love isn’t meant for me in this lifetime because I’ve tried so many times.”
Tiwa’s remarks follow her well-publicized divorce from Tunji “TeeBillz” Balogun by a number of years. After attempts to keep the marriage intact failed, the pair, who were married in 2013, split up in 2018. Tiwa disclosed at the time that she was battling postpartum depression after the birth of their baby and that her ex-husband’s behaviour had played a role in the disintegration of their marriage. Tiwa was the target of harsh public scrutiny and criticism during the divorce process, with many individuals passing judgement on her without considering her point of view. She recalled that numerous prominent people had told her to remain silent in order to save her reputation, but she decided to speak up.
