After being taken to the hospital, the victim, a 34-year-old woman who was thought to be homeless, passed away. A Nashville Fire Department crew happened to witness the assault while en route to an emergency call at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Nolensville Pike, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD). On the pavement in front of the church, the firefighters allegedly saw Mohamed abusing the woman.
The firefighters swiftly reversed their car, activated their siren, and confronted the offender, according to a statement issued by the police on Friday. The MNPD statement said, “Mohamed was trying to pull up the unconscious victim’s trousers as they pulled up to the sidewalk.” The firefighters took Mohamed into custody right away, phoned the police, and treated the wounded until paramedics could come. The woman was taken immediately to a local hospital, but she was declared dead not long after. To ascertain the precise cause of death, the Davidson County Medical Examiner’s Office is awaiting toxicology results.
Later, investigators looked at local CCTV footage that showed the woman approaching the church steps by herself while seeming shaky and confused. She may have been under the influence of an unidentified narcotic, according to the police. Mohamed is accused of approaching her when she was sitting on the stairs and repeatedly initiating inappropriate personal contact as she was drifting in and out of consciousness, according to the footage. He allegedly pushed her to the ground and repeatedly sexually abused her as she attempted to push him away.
Following his detention, Mohamed reportedly refused to give a statement or assist with investigators, according to police. A $300,000 bond has been set for him. Since a police chaplain is trying to find and contact the victim’s family, her name has not yet been made public.
