Ajibade vehemently denied ever claiming that their bonuses had not been paid when I spoke with her—Olopade

Bukola Olopade, the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) director-general and sports director, denied recent allegations that the Super Falcons have not received their tournament incentives, according to an article published by The Nation on Friday, August 15, 2025….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In response to media claims, he stated that nearly all participants have received compensation. He made the speech in an attempt to allay worries expressed by supporters and interested parties. Olopade revealed this on Friday when he appeared on “The Morning Show” on Arise News TV. He claims to have personally confirmed the facts with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and squad captain Rasheedat Ajibade. He emphasised that there is no reality to the claim that the payments were not made, saying that both sources verified that the bonuses were paid to the players.

The sports director clarified that he discussed the issue directly with Ajibade. He added that he had also communicated with Mallam Shehu Dikko, the chairman of the Sports Commission, regarding the team captain. He said that these exchanges further verified that the captain never claimed that the incentives had not been paid. Olopade stressed that if nothing is done, the rumours circulating about the alleged underpaid incentives could be false and harmful. He advised the people to trust established facts instead of unverified assertions. His remarks are meant to convince Nigerians that the sports authorities continue to prioritise the Super Falcons’ well-being.

The topic of players’ rights has garnered widespread attention in recent weeks, particularly in light of the Super Falcons’ involvement in international competitions. Tension between Nigerian sports teams and their regulating bodies has typically resulted from payment delays and conflicts. Olopade, however, maintains that the situation has been handled properly in this case.

In order to prevent the dissemination of misleading information, he also urged better communication between athletes, sports officials, and the media. He claims that this kind of collaboration will preserve the players’ and authorities’ trust while preserving Nigerian sports’ reputation internationally. Many people consider the Super Falcons to be among Africa’s most successful women’s football teams because they have regularly represented Nigeria in important tournaments.

The Sports Commission’s leadership’s promise is intended to allay any concerns over their compensation and return the focus to their training and performance in future games. Olopade stated: “I have had direct conversations with Ajibade, and I have phone conversations between Ajibade and Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Sports Commission chairman, in which she strongly denied ever claiming that their bonuses had not been paid….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
