JUST-IN: Lagos Police Nab Mother-Son Duo in Major Cannabis Bust, Seize 298 Blocks

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old woman, identified as Mrs. Folake Adeyemi, and her 28-year-old son, Adeyemi Tunde, for allegedly distributing 298 blocks of cannabis in the Ikorodu area of Lagos….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

The arrests, which took place on August 15, 2025, followed a sting operation conducted by the anti-narcotics unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

According to a statement from the Lagos State Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspects were apprehended after weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance.

“Acting on credible information, our operatives raided a residence in the Ikorodu area, where we recovered 298 blocks of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa,” Hundeyin said.

“The mother and son were found to be key players in the distribution chain, supplying large quantities of the illicit drug across Lagos and neighboring states.”

The police operation began after tip-offs from local residents who reported suspicious activities at the suspects’ residence.

Undercover officers monitored the duo for several weeks before executing the raid. During the operation, authorities also seized packaging materials, a weighing scale, and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds from the illegal trade.

Mrs. Adeyemi, a trader by profession, and her son, a mechanic, reportedly confessed to their involvement in the distribution network.

Preliminary investigations suggest they were working with a larger syndicate, sourcing cannabis from suppliers in neighboring states and distributing it to local dealers in Lagos.

The police are now intensifying efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate.

The arrests have sparked mixed reactions in the community. Some residents expressed shock at the involvement of a mother and son in such activities, while others praised the police for their efforts in curbing drug-related crimes.

“It’s surprising to hear that a mother and her child could be involved in this kind of business,” said Chukwuma Eze, a local shopkeeper. “But I’m glad the police are taking action to make our streets safer.”

The Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse in the state.

“We will not relent in our efforts to rid Lagos of illicit drugs and those who profit from them,” Hundeyin added.

The suspects are set to be charged with possession and distribution of illegal substances, pending further investigation.

This latest operation comes amid growing concerns over the rise of drug-related crimes in Nigeria, particularly in urban centers like Lagos.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported an increase in cannabis seizures across the country, with Lagos being a major hub for trafficking networks.

Mrs. Adeyemi and her son are currently in custody, and their case has been transferred to the Lagos State Command’s anti-narcotics unit for further investigation.

If convicted, they could face up to seven years in prison under Nigeria’s drug trafficking laws.

The police have urged the public to provide information on suspicious activities in their communities to aid in the fight against drug trafficking.

“Community cooperation is vital in our efforts to keep Lagos safe,” Hundeyin said….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
