He maintained that it is essentially unreasonable to pay the President much less than other important officials, or much less than the Attorney General.
He explained that when salaries are examined or recommended for increase, they are frequently accused of being excessive, confirming the public’s belief that low government salaries excuse corrupt practices. He noted that the problem is made worse by the high number of lawmakers and ministers whose salaries have long been insufficiently adjusted. “I have repeatedly stated that you pay a CBN governor or an NCC ten times more than you pay the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said during live transmission by Symfoni. It’s simply incorrect. Or you give him twenty times the Federation’s Attorney General’s salary. That is just incorrect. However, people prefer to make fun of it and make insinuations.
People will accept you being as crooked as you want to be just because you have an office and receive a small income. That is acceptable to them. However, people will now start to complain that your official salary is excessive if you claim you would examine and review it. How much does it cost? We have how many ministers?
