He claims that although many Nigerians concentrate on the salary of their employees, the problem of ministers and other high-ranking officials’ stagnant salaries since 2008 has gone unnoticed.
According to him, it is not possible to expect a minister to make less than one million naira a month for almost twenty years without making any adjustments and yet be able to perform their duties well without using “other things.” As the panel drafts a new report, Cardoso asked for public support, emphasising that while the agency’s mandate includes political office holders’ salary, it does not affect Nigerian workers’ minimum wage.
“We’ve discussed this with him (Tinubu), but the main controversy has always been about other political office holders,” he stated during live coverage by Symfoni. “You can’t pay a minister less than a million naira a month since 2008 and didn’t raise his salary and expect that he would put in his best effort without necessarily being involved in some other things.” Therefore, I would appreciate your support as well as that of your people.
