Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Mao Ning reaffirmed China’s unwavering position on Taiwan during a press briefing in Beijing on Monday, August 18, 2025, according to a report by Anadolu English. She stated that Taiwan was an inseparable part of China and that the Chinese people alone had the right to decide its own destiny.

She also underlined Beijing’s resolve to maintain control over the island in spite of mounting international pressure, saying that although the Chinese government, led by President Xi Jinping, would continue to work towards peaceful reunification, it would never accept any outside intervention or separatist actions that might jeopardise its sovereignty. According to Mao Ning, “The Chinese people should decide how to resolve the Taiwan issue because Taiwan is an integral part of China and the question is an internal Chinese matter.” We shall make every effort to pursue the possibility of peaceful reunion. However, we would never permit any force or anyone to take Taiwan away from China in any manner.

The Chinese government’s statement was obtained after Donald Trump, the president of the United States, stated in an interview that the Chinese president had personally assured him that he would never invade Taiwan while he was president.
