In a very personal account of her fight with cancer, well-known Yoruba actress Osoba Tope disclosed how her family first failed to tell her the heartbreaking reality….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
In an interview with Oyinmomo TV on Friday, August 22, 2025, she talked candidly about how an unexpected health scare in 2023 completely upended her life and put her strength to the test in ways she never could have predicted. The actress clarified that what appeared to be a routine self-check marked the start of the adventure. As she examined herself, she became instantly concerned when she saw a tiny bump beneath her breast. She sought reassurance by seeking expert guidance from a doctor out of caution.
Tope remembered that at first, the doctor rejected her concerns, telling her that the lump was nothing to be concerned about and that it will ultimately go away. But in defiance of the doctor’s advice, the lump kept getting bigger, which made her more anxious and impatient for clarification. She confided in her aunt since she was unsure of what to do, and her aunt immediately realised how serious the matter was. Her aunt demanded that she be put through more medical examinations. At this point, the lump was taken out for examination, and the findings verified that it was cancer. Tope was unaware at the time that her doctors had not informed her of the outcome immediately. Rather, they told her aunt the truth.
In an effort to emotionally shield her, her family made the tough decision to withhold the diagnosis from her. She subsequently learnt that their choice was predicated on a private declaration she had made in a vulnerable moment. She had previously told her relative that she would rather to die than deal with cancer if she ever found out about it. Her loved ones were troubled by this memory, which affected their decision to keep the truth from them.
Thus, for six long months, Tope was oblivious to her actual state. Her family bore the weight of her knowing during that period, softly encouraging her while they considered the best way to finally break the news to her. In retrospect, the actress acknowledged that the encounter was both traumatic and life-changing. Even while it was challenging, the concealment ultimately provided her the courage to confront the conflict head-on after she discovered the truth. She said the experience changed her perspective on life and put her fortitude to the test.
Tope stressed that her experience is a potent reminder of the significance of raising awareness about cancer. Regardless of age, she advised everyone to closely monitor their health, get frequent checkups, and consult a doctor if something feels off. She thinks that combating the illness requires early awareness and detection. Surviving the event has given the actress a renewed sense of purpose. She now makes use of her position to inspire others to fight the illness head-on rather than to live in dread of it.
She thinks that cancer is not a death sentence and hopes that her tale will encourage others to take their health seriously and to pay attention to their bodies’ warning signals. I had threatened to commit suicide if I ever developed cancer, according to my relative. Perhaps it was the reason they kept it from me. For six months, they didn’t tell me,” she disclosed…..CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
