On August 22, police said 53-year-old Mario Green entered the basement of Henry Ford Hospital while Latricia was working. The two got into an argument before he pulled out a gun and shot her multiple times. He fled the scene and left the hospital in a white Dodge Charger.
Surveillance footage showed Mario leaving shortly before 10 a.m. The car was later found abandoned. By the early hours of August 23, Detroit police confirmed that Mario was arrested and taken into custody. The hospital was briefly locked down after the shooting.
According to People, court records show Latricia had previously sought help from the courts to get protection from Mario. In June, she requested a protection order, citing harassment and threats at her workplace, but the request was denied.
She filed again on July 20, reporting that Mario had damaged her car, stolen her belongings, and repeatedly followed her. A judge approved the order on July 21, but it was never served to him.
In her July filing, Latricia wrote that she lived in constant fear of her ex-husband, describing both past abuse and ongoing harassment. She wrote, “I have tried being cordial because I feel that the system has now let me down each time that I have tried to make reports on this man. My father was murdered, and now with this situation I am now in mental distress and scared not knowing what to do.”
“I have to constantly look over my shoulder to make sure this man is not following me to hurt me like he has done in the past with physical abuse,” she further wrote. “I am asking for help before this goes too far, and things are too late.”
Friends and family said Latricia had continued to report his behavior even days before her death. They recalled one incident where Mario allegedly followed her home from work and ran her off the road.
