The girl was said to have been entrusted in Gbemisola’s care after the victim’s father died some years ago.

Sadly, the girl has been subjected to heartbreaking abuses by her aunt.

Solace came the minor’s way on Saturday, 22nd August 2025, when a non-governmental organization, Monsurat Ajoke Foundation received the report of her abuse and rescued her.

the Executive Director of the foundation, Monsurat Ajoke explained that the girl sustained painful bruises and had suffered physical, emotional and verbal abuses from her aunt.

With the quick intervention of the Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, Sekinat Halid, Ajoke explained that the girl was rescued at the suspect’s house at Owode Ede and taken to a hospital for treatment.

“A 5-year-old girl who lost her father years ago and was placed in the care of her aunt, Mrs. Gbemisola Oladepo was brutally abused. The little girl was found with several bruises and injuries all over her body after continuous physical, emotional, and verbal abuse. She has now been rescued and admitted at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital for urgent medical care,” she explained.

She said operatives from Zone XI Police in Osogbo have arrested Gbemisola over the alleged child abuse.

Meanwhile, the Founder of the Foundation has called on members of the public, especially mothers and women in general to desist from abusing children, whether their biological wards or others entrusted in their care.

According to her, the recent incident is a sad reminder that too many children, especially orphans and those living with relatives, suffer silently in the hands of those who should protect them.

Appealing to mothers and other women, she said, “Every child, whether yours by birth or entrusted to you, deserves love, dignity, and protection. No situation or hardship justifies abusing a child. If you can’t care for a child, please seek help—do not destroy an innocent life. Remember that children are tomorrow’s leaders. The way we treat them today shapes their future and the society we all live in.

“Let us be known as women who heal, nurture, and protect—not those who break children’s spirits.”

Extending the same plea to community members, she said, “Do not keep silent when you witness abuse. Speak out and report immediately. Support families who are struggling with childcare, especially widows, single parents, or elderly guardians.

“Let us join hands— government, NGOs, religious leaders, and communities—to create a society where no child suffers in silence.”

“The Monsurat Ajoke Foundation stands ready to continue its work in sensitization, counselling, and rehabilitation for abused children. Together, we can end child abuse and build a safer Osun State for all children,” she added…..CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
