A man known as “Gentle the Yahoo” is seen in a viral video killing three men in southeast Nigeria.

The victims were allegedly handcuffed, questioned in Igbo, and charged with armed robbery on the video. They were shot one after the other despite their cries for compassion, and the gunman said something terrifying: > “Today, God has given you all a lesson. Anyone who engages in illegal activity will face harsh consequences. Many Nigerians have denounced the gruesome footage as cruel and inhumane, sparking outrage across the country.

Rumour has it that the claimed gunman is associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN), its military wing. Since IPOB was declared a terrorist organisation by the Nigerian government, many have conjectured as to why the murders were committed. But as of yet, neither the gunman’s identify nor his direct connection to the separatist organisation have been officially confirmed. Based on the language spoken and the setting shown in the video, social media critics speculate that the incident might have happened in Anambra State.

In what seems to be a case of vigilante punishment, the three victims—who were thought to be young guys from the area—were put to death. Security organisations have not yet issued an official statement on the subject.
