Authorities in Fort Worth have arrested and charged a woman after a dead baby was found in a suitcase that was disposed of in a dumpster last year. Per CBS News, the suspect, identified as Courtney Minor, admitted to placing the newborn baby in a suitcase before abandoning the minor in the dumpster.
The dumpster containing the deceased baby was situated at the La Hacienda Apartments, and the suitcase in question was found in July 2024. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner in November 2024 also said that the deceased baby’s identity was not confirmed.
Fort Worth police said that Minor was spotted disposing of the suitcase in the dumpster. Minor ultimately admitted that the baby was not dead at birth, and she placed the minor in the suitcase before disposing of it in the dumpster, the Crimes Against Children Unit said on Monday.
Minor has since been charged with abuse of a corpse and capital murder of a person under 10 years old. Under Texas’ Baby Moses Law, parents can safely and anonymously drop off their newborn babies at a fire department, hospital, or freestanding emergency room.
