According to him, this might have played a role in the young artist’s difficulties prior to his passing. Marley addressed popular claims that he bullied Mohbad or contributed to his unfortunate demise in a two-hour documentary that was published on Wednesday. According to the “Soapy” crooner, he was not involved in the killing of his former label star.
On September 12, 2023, Mohbad passed away at the age of 27, igniting uproar and indignation across the country. A Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos, in February of this year exonerated Primeboy, Marley, Babatunde Opere, Mohbad’s former manager, and music promoter Sam Larry of any direct participation. Rather, the Ikorodu Coroner’s Court determined that the auxiliary nurse who gave the singer shots had engaged in egregious negligence. However, Marley made it clear in the new video that one of the problems he brought up with Mohbad was substance abuse.
“I eventually discovered that the substance he claimed to be taking was Ice (crack).” Since I am aware of the harm it has caused to others I know in the UK, I called him and warned him about the danger without getting upset. He claimed that stress was the reason he got involved, but he promised to stay out of it. He wasn’t coerced into doing anything by me,” Marley claimed.
Contrary to rumours, the singer added, Mohbad selected his own management and had open and honest economic interactions with the label, sharing revenues equally. Citing medical documents and conversations, he refuted claims that Mohbad was afraid to visit hospitals. Marley also talked about the NDLEA raid on Marlian House in February 2022, which resulted in Mohbad’s arrest and a widely shared live performance in which the late singer accused him of threatening to kill him. Along with his parents and fiancée, Marley later apologised and said that Mohbad was in a fragile mental state at the time of the incident. He said that Mohbad struggled with ongoing mental health issues, which included an attempted suicide in March 2022. According to Marley, he even spoke with Mohbad’s parents about his difficulties and attempted to get him medical attention.
He went on to say that Mohbad severed his relationship with him due to financial disputes, which included the withdrawal of $72,000 from a digital streaming partner. Marley last saw him after a confrontation with his manager in October 2022. The head of Marlian Music emphasised that he was in Amsterdam at the time of Mohbad’s death and asked why people who had been with the singer during the previous 48 hours had not been subjected to a more thorough investigation.
