The actress disclosed that while living with her grandmother at the age of nine, she was sexually assaulted by two men from her neighbourhood.

Aleem recalled that because she thought the assault was typical, she chose not to report it. “When I was younger, I was really attractive. When I was selling things on the street, older guys (those over 35) would welcome me into their houses. At the time, I was around nine or ten years old,” she remarked. Identifying the males as paedophiles, she explained how they would touch her body and intimate parts, even asking her to touch their genitalia. Aleem kept this abuse to herself because she believed it to be usual, even though it occurred about three times. She was afraid her grandma wouldn’t understand, therefore she felt reluctant to confide in her.

As Aleem became older, she came across more guys in her community who made similar approaches and asked her to stay at their houses. She was old enough to see the danger by that point, though, and declined to accompany them. Aleem talked about her career’s financial difficulties in addition to her traumatic past. She expressed her dissatisfaction with the mediocre success of her most recent film, *Okoja Ofin*, on YouTube in an emotional video that she shared on Instagram in June.
