The warning came after a recent altercation in one of the neighbourhoods that claimed a resident’s life. The unit reported that officers visited the property linked to the incident and promptly reacted to a distress call. The Anti-Cultism Unit clarified that its agents behaved legally by sending an invitation letter at the apartment, requesting the suspect to appear before the police, even though the matter is still being investigated by the police. The unit also disclosed that it conducted another operation in the Ago community, where a suspected Black Hat gang member was charged with trying to forcibly initiate a person.
The Anti-Cultism Unit, in a statement, reaffirmed the governor’s position that cultism will not be tolerated in Edo State. The unit urged members of cult groups who wish to renounce their membership to voluntarily present themselves to the authorities, assuring them that they will not be harassed or detained but will be reintegrated into society. However, the unit cautioned that those who choose to remain in cult groups and continue unlawful activities would be pursued and apprehened. According to reports, investigations turned up evidence, including money transfers and a shrine thought to have been used for cult-related activities. His home was later sealed.
