Marafa revealed in an interview with Arise TV that his backing of Ashafa during the Lagos APC primary caused enduring hostility with the First Lady. “Remi Tinubu is currently involved in these issues for a variety of reasons. I felt terrible about my support of my buddy Senator Ashafa when he was turned down for a ticket in Lagos, and I talked to Mr. President about it. We have a close relationship with him, as I mentioned. I spoke with him over the phone. “I am your boy,” I said. I’ll go anywhere you call me. I recall being in Abuja at the time. He gave me an explanation when he called me to Lagos. And I believe Her Excellency wasn’t pleased with it.

Marafa suggested that the First Lady was still unhappy with President Tinubu’s intervention, but he appreciated how he handled their argument. “What Mr. President did for me in his home in Lagos at that time was greatly appreciated. We talked for about an hour as he gave me the reasons behind his choice on the Lagos ticket holders. Sincerely, that is among the reasons I admire President Tinubu. However, I believe Her Excellency wasn’t pleased with it,” he clarified.

The politician talked about his failed attempts to get in touch with the First Lady after the APC won the election. I called her multiple times after they won the election, but she didn’t answer.
