Ruth reportedly lost her life on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after spending 19 days in the hospital. She was said to have been hit by a Dangote truck in Auchi, Edo State. Reports indicated that the vehicle was being driven by a person alleged to be without a valid license.
In a video released on Instagram, VDM expressed anger over the lack of concern shown by Nigerians, bloggers, and government agencies while Ruth was still battling for her life. He noted that many became vocal only after her death.
According to him, Ruth was alive for 19 days in the hospital, yet very few people paid attention to her condition or called for action. He argued that the attention only came after she passed away.
“She was alive for 19 days, yet nobody spoke up. Now that she is gone, everybody wants to talk, post and trend the story. If we had raised the alarm earlier, maybe Dangote Group would have been forced to act faster,” VDM said.
The activist insisted that if there had been more pressure from the public during the period Ruth was hospitalised, the Dangote Group might have been compelled to intervene more quickly.
He went on to call out both the Nigerian government and the Dangote Group for negligence. VDM condemned the employment of unlicensed drivers by a company of such size and influence, stressing that the incident reflected a wider failure in the system.
He further stated that the inability of government agencies to hold corporations accountable showed how ordinary Nigerians are often left without protection.
