Blessing (21), Miracle (20), Favour (19), and Kadi (22), four young women, are accused of banding together to beat and strip their friend Nancy for allegedly “snatching” their boyfriends. The conflict reportedly began when the girls accused Nancy of having an affair with one of their boyfriends. They called a 17-year-old boy engaged in the case to verify the accusation. However, the boy surprisingly denied ever having an affair with Nancy. Rather than overlooking the problem, the girls apparently became aggressive and rushed the youngster, brutally hitting him until he began to bleed. Concerns regarding the girls’ degree of irresponsibility are further raised by the fact that witnesses say one of them was allegedly smoking Igbo (weed) during the assault.

The violence that occurred is depicted in videos and images that are circulating online, shocking many Nigerians with the extent of adolescent irresponsibility and jealousy. Nancy begged for justice over the phone with VDM, claiming that the police had already thwarted her attempts. According to her, the girls were arrested after the matter was reported, but they were unexpectedly freed the same day without a thorough investigation. Nancy begged for authorities to intervene before the situation worsened, screaming that her life was in jeopardy. Since then, the story has generated intense social media responses, with many Nigerians criticising the police’s conduct and demanding harsher penalties for youth cult-like behaviour.
