An 82-year-old former Serie goalkeeper is preparing to return after winning the World Cup championship.

More than 60 years after playing professionally for teams like Fiorentina and Perugia, the former Serie A custodian is getting ready to join seventh-division team Trevi. By participating in Masters Athletics competitions, where he has competed in long jump, triple jump, and pole vault, Boranga has maintained an exceptionally high level of fitness throughout the years. He wants one final taste of football action before travelling to Portugal to compete in the European Masters Athletics Championships next month.

“I will play one match in October and then we will see,” Boranga said in an explanation to Ansa. I have no intention of going into the locker room and issuing commands. All I want to do is have fun. Boranga, who is also a qualified cardiologist, is preparing for the big day by working with Marco Bonaiuti, a former goalkeeping coach for Inter Milan.

He stated that he wants to play well even though he acknowledged that he might not be able to last the entire ninety minutes. “I feel okay, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to play the entire game. Naturally, the coach makes the final decision, but I don’t want to appear like a buffoon. Boranga, who still trains four times a week, feels age is only a number. Paper is one thing, but biological age is another. On other days, I feel like I’m fifty.

With a leap of 10.75 meters in 2012, he broke the Masters world record in the triple jump. He has won 10 medals in European and international championships, including five golds. His current goal is straightforward: to motivate people as they age. Nowadays, adults tend to be more active than children.
