He claimed that the current military chiefs possess the knowledge and expertise needed to address the country’s security issues.

The leader of the Northern Ethnic National Forum, Dominic Alancha, was the driving force behind the demand for the replacement of the Service Chiefs because he was dissatisfied with their performance despite the fact that the government had made a major investment in security. Ndume denied these claims as baseless and politically motivated, instead advocating for a “TEAM strategy”—an acronym for Training, Equipment, Ammunition, and Motivation—and emphasised that this approach may improve the military’s capabilities in its fight against terrorism, armed banditry, and insurgency attacks.

Ndume noted that a private soldier receives a daily salary of ₦5,000 and makes about ₦100,000 per month. He was worried that these numbers weren’t enough for soldiers’ well-being.

He cautioned that the current compensation package would have a detrimental impact on soldiers’ morale and urged the federal government to increase soldier pay and enhance their general well-being. “The people who are calling for the removal of the current Service Chiefs are motivated by ulterior motives that do not serve this administration or the citizens of Nigeria,” Ndume stated in an official statement he gave in Abuja on Thursday. I want to reiterate the importance of the TEAM approach, which stands for Training, Equipment, Ammunition, and Motivation, as being essential to the battle against terrorism, banditry, and insurgency. Anyone who claims that the Service Chiefs are not qualified to do their jobs is unfair.

They are all trained in operating contexts and possess the necessary competence. A lot of resources and a strong feeling of motivation are required. The daily stipend of N5,000 and the monthly salary of about N100,000 that a private soldier in Nigeria receives are totally inadequate. Any statements that could depress the morale of our commissioned officers and soldiers in the field should be avoided. Furthermore, in contrast to the previous government’s practices, Ndume commended President Tinubu’s administration for supporting religious and ethnic diversity in the selection of the current security leadership.Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was tragically killed during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
