She urged state governments and other First Ladies to follow Enugu’s lead, pointing out that environmental order and cleanliness are essential indicators of good governance.
Senator Tinubu described her personal experience during a recent trip to Enugu in a video posted by Arise TV on its official YouTube page. “The state left such a strong impression that it stood out as a model for the rest of the federation,” she said. “Enugu is clean if you visit. The First Lady of Enugu informed me that the governor doesn’t want to see any dirt when we were driving. “Anything that is found to be unclean is reported right away and fixed,” the First Lady clarified.
She went on to emphasise that the Enugu program goes beyond simple beautifying initiatives. Establishing a culture of cleanliness and orderliness in public life is more important than merely beautifying city centres or planting trees. According to Tinubu, this culture displays conscious governing decisions that put the wellbeing of the populace first and present a favourable picture of the state. She asserts that other leaders nationwide ought to be motivated by Enugu’s strategy. According to her, leaders’ ability to create a safe, living environment that promotes inhabitants’ wellbeing, productivity, and sense of pride is just as important as their ability to build infrastructure like roads and bridges. The First Lady emphasised how environmental order has broader advantages. “A clean environment fosters investment, draws tourists, and supports excellent health.
“The state and its citizens benefit when leaders place a high priority on cleanliness,” she remarked. She maintained that maintaining cleanliness improves public health, reduces the burden of disease, and advances national development as a whole. Her comments have sparked online and offline conversations among Nigerians. Enugu State has received a lot of appreciation from pundits for leading by example and proving that excellent government can be seen in small elements that have an impact on people’s quality of life as well as in large-scale undertakings. Social media responses indicated that Nigerians are becoming more aware of the value of clean settings. While Enugu’s example is admirable, many states continue to face issues with poor sanitation, clogged drainage systems, and trash management, according to several users.
Critics demanded that more state governments handle environmental protection and waste collection as top governance objectives rather than as side projects. Additionally, observers noted that Oluremi Tinubu’s remarks coincide with Nigeria’s current public health issues, which are linked to inadequate sanitation in many of the country’s cities. Outbreaks of cholera, flooding brought on by clogged drainage systems, and careless trash disposal have highlighted the negative effects of disregarding environmental hygiene. But for Enugu, the First Lady’s praise contributes to the state’s efforts under the current leadership being increasingly acknowledged. Despite its difficulties, analysts contend that Enugu’s conscious emphasis on outward cleanliness shows political determination that other governments can imitate……CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
