Police in Imo Begin Rescue Mission for Kidnapped Former Lawmaker from IPOB/ESN

According to a horrific video that has gone viral online, Ogbu is being kept captive by suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma has directed the urgent deployment of tactical units in coordination with other security agencies, according to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Okoye Henry. The goal of the mission is to find and securely rescue the congressman, who was allegedly abducted on September 7, 2025, in Onuimo.

The Command has asked citizens to provide any helpful information that could help with the inquiry and to maintain composure and vigilance. According to the press release, “The Command will not give up until the criminals are apprehended and the victim is securely reunited with his family.” This episode adds to the region’s growing security concerns as officials pledge more aggressive steps to combat criminal organisations and restore public confidence.
