OROVILLE, Calif. (WKRC) – A man went to the home of his child’s mother despite a restraining order, prompting a police response. Shortly after officers left, he brutalized her in front of their child.

Nathan James Sumpter, 28, pled no contest to felony charges of assault likely to cause great bodily injury and dissuading a witness, and a misdemeanor for violating a previous restraining order, according to a release from the Butte County District Attorney.

Sumpter went to the home of his child’s mother, who had a restraining order against him, on the evening of July 8, 2025. Law enforcement arrived at the residence shortly after Sumpter, but he hid within the house and threatened the victim and her family if she told police he was in the home. As soon as police left, Sumpter’s brutality began.

“That evening Sumpter punched the victim in the face and strangled her,” the release read. “Sumpter’s brutality continued the next morning when he strangled her to the point of unconsciousness and stomped on her face in front of their two-year-old child.”

The victim’s aunt arrived at the home after “Sumpter called her saying the victim was unresponsive,” but the man had already fled the residence.Sumpter was arrested shortly after his escape…….CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
