The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has warned that he can’t be blackmailed by what he termed civil servants contractors.
Wike vowed never to pay contractors conniving with civil servants behind his back, stressing that they failed to go through the due process.
The Minister spoke during the flag off of the construction of Access Roads ILS 02 and ILS 03 (Timipre Sylva Street) in Mabushi District, Abuja.
He said: “But that you go somewhere and just because we are not doing what you want and then you think by blackmail it will make us do it, we will not do it.
“So civil servants who are here, if you know those people that you are organizing, call them back and tell them that it’s like the thing won’t work.
“Somebody will just come and say you are owing us, I determine what is the priority. You cannot determine for us what’s the priority, you cannot. I know what the people need and that’s why we’re at the flag off roads. That is not the nature of our people. Our people need hospitals, our people need schools, our people need good roads.
“So those who campaign that we have not paid them, I have told them to come and show where we awarded the contracts to you and we didn’t pay you.
“But if its these civil servants contracts where you award N5m at my back and then carry debts, I will not pay. If you like go and block everywhere. Some people say that people will demonstrate but I say what is democracy all about? It’s about protest and demonstration.”
