EPL: Arne Slot blames Liverpool player for 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has blamed Jeremie Frimpong for their 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Eddie Nketiah’s dramatic last-gasp winner saw the champions lose their unbeaten start.

Palace dominated the opening stages and took the lead through Ismaïla Sarr.

Alisson kept Liverpool in the game with some fine saves before they levelled through Federico Chiesa.

But the hosts secured all three points from a long throw-in which the Reds failed to deal with.

Frimpong came on in the 74th minute to replace Ibrahima Konaté and got caught under the ball as it was inadvertently glanced on by fellow substitute Curtis Jones. He lost Nketiah, who took advantage of the space to blast past Alisson.

“We can only blame ourselves for defending the way we did,” said Slot, before hinting at Frimpong’s mistake.

“One of our players ran out because he wanted to play a counter-attack, which was of no use because time was up, so it was only about defending.

“One player was too offensively minded in that moment, which led to them scoring the winner and us losing the game.”
