Former Senate President hails Sowore’s call for Nnamdi Kanu’s release

Adolphus Wabara, a former Senate President has commended publisher and activist Omoyele Sowore’s campaign for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) from detention.

Wabara, who represented Abia South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate said he stands in solidarity with Sowore on the campaign demanding the immediate release of Kanu.

In a letter personally signed by the former lawmaker and sent to Sowore, Wabara said he would have loved to be part of the activist’s planned protest but he is currently out of the country.

The IPOB leader was arrested by the Nigerian authorities with the help of INTERPOL in Kenya in 2021.

Sowore, who has always condemned his prolonged detention earlier announced that he would be leading a nationwide protest on October 20, to demand the release of Kanu.

In the letter dated October 13, and shared by the activist on his X account, Wabara said, “I have been informed about the planned protest on the 20th of October, calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“I wish to commend your efforts and those of others who continue to speak up for justice and fairness in our country.

‘Unfortunately, I am out of the country and will not be able to join you physically on that day.

“However, please know that I am with you in spirit and in full support of every peaceful effort aimed at securing justice and national reconciliation. I wish you and all participants a peaceful and successful outing,” the former Senate president wrote.
