The Secretariat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ekiti State has been razed by suspected political thugs, alleged to be from the All Progressive Congress APC.
The attack, which occurred late Monday night, completely destroyed the building, furniture, and several campaign materials belonging to the party.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that a video released on the ADC’s official Facebook page shows the structure engulfed in flames, with broken windows and burnt billboards scattered around the premises.
Reacting to the incident, the ADC accused its political rivals of orchestrating the arson to intimidate its supporters and weaken the party’s growing influence in the state.
“Our Party Secretariat was set ablaze this morning by those threatened by the rising momentum and formidable organisational structure that the Ekiti ADC is building. This cowardly act is most unfortunate, yet it will only fortify our determination and unity. The formidable Ekiti State ADC has come to stay,” the party said in a statement.
The attack reportedly took place just hours before the ADC’s scheduled Reconfiguration and Affirmation Ceremony for its ward, local government, senatorial, and state executives.
Despite the heavy damage, the party leadership has vowed not to be intimidated. “Our spirit remains unbroken; our vision, unstoppable,” the statement added.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ekiti State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed any arrests.
