SDP Expels National Chairman, Youth Leader, Others Over Misconduct

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the SDP has taken decisive action by expelling its former National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, and the former National Youth Leader, Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, over alleged misconduct, financial misappropriation and abuse of office.

The decision was reached on Thursday in Abuja at the end of the NWC meeting after months of internal investigations and disciplinary proceedings.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rufus Aiyenigba, said the action followed the adoption of a White Paper report that reviewed findings from the Disciplinary Committee set up to probe the allegations against the affected officers.

He explained that the NWC had earlier suspended the officials on June 24, 2025, after they were found to have engaged in acts that violated the party’s constitution and financial regulations. To ensure fairness, an independent Disciplinary Committee was set up on July 4, 2025, which completed its investigation within two weeks and submitted its report.

According to the SDP Publicity Secretary, following a review of the committee’s report, the NWC approved the recommendations, which led to the expulsion of Gabam and Uchechukwu. Also affected is the former National Auditor, Mr. Clarkson Nnadi, who was relieved of his duties after voluntarily resigning.

Moreover, eight other members: Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu were also expelled for alleged disloyalty and unlawful entry into the party’s national secretariat on July 28, 2025.

According to Aiyenigba, the expelled members were apprehended by security operatives while in possession of sensitive party documents and valuables allegedly taken from the secretariat.
He said the matter has since been handed over to the police for criminal investigation.

He added that the expulsion was necessary to “restore integrity, discipline, and internal order” in the party. The statement further noted that the action takes immediate effect from Thursday, October 23, 2025, and was unanimously approved by all members of the NWC.

The SDP leadership has also vowed to implement other administrative recommendations from the White Paper to prevent similar issues in the future.

It could be recalled that on June 24, 2025, the SDP had suspended Shehu Gabam, Ogbonna Uchechukwu, and Clarkson Nnadi over allegations of financial misconduct, embezzlement, and unauthorised withdrawal of party funds.
This development marked the beginning of the internal crisis that has now led to their expulsion form the party.
