The newly appointed chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan has urged staff of the commision to ensure they carry out their duties in a manner that will restore unity and national electoral confidence in the institution.

Amupitan made the call while speaking at the official introduction between him and the core management staff of the INEC.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing him as the nation’s new INEC chairman and also acknowledged the weight of the responsibility bestowed upon him.

Addressing the staff of INEC, Amupitan assured them of his committment towards upholding the integrity, discipline and transparency required of the electoral body.

The new INEC chairman noted that the opportunity presented before him and INEC staff is one which they must strive to deliver free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria, starting with the forthcoming off-cycle polls in Anambra.

“The eyes of the nation are upon us, and it is our duty to rise to that occasion,” he stated, emphasising the need to restore voter confidence and address voter apathy.

“Let us break down silos. Foster open communications and create an environment where every voice is heard and valued,” Amupitan said.

Promising to be fair and just, Amupitan also assured that top of the tasks for his administration is the welfare of every staff of the commission.
