President Bola Tinubu has held his first meeting with the newly appointed service chiefs at the presidential villa in Abuja.
The meeting came hours after Tinubu announced a major shake-up in the military leadership, retaining General Olufemi Oluyede but redeploying him from Chief of Army Staff to Chief of Defense Staff.
Major-General W. Shaibu was appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke and Rear Admiral I. Abbas were named Chiefs of Air Staff and Naval Staff, respectively.
Addressing the newly appointed officers, the president charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating professionalism, vigilance, and unity in the discharge of their duties.
Tinubu urged the commanders to build on the existing operational structure of the armed forces and to strengthen synergy across services to address the nation’s evolving security challenges.
The president also emphasised the need for loyalty to the constitution and renewed commitment to the protection of lives and property across the country.
