The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday, October 26, 2025, condemned the action of the governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo who promised monetary gifts to voters in Orumba South Local Government Area of the State.
The ADC said it has become clear that the incumbent governor of Anambra has lost the confidence of the people of the state.
This remark from the coalition party comes hours after the governor was captured in a video promising the communities in Orumba South Local Government Area cash gifts of N1 million should his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance win the November 8, governorship election in these areas.
In addition, the governor while speaking during his campaign rally in the LGA also stated that any community that emerges victorious with the largest number of voters for APGA will also receive a cash prize of N5 million.
Reacting to the viral video, the National Publicity Secretary for the ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi said it is only a sitting governor who has run out of the goodwill of the people that can engage in such action.
Also citing Sections 121 and 127 of the Electoral Act, Abdullahi said the governor, with his promises to the electorates in the LGA, contravenes the provision of the law which criminalises the inducement of voters.
Abdullahi’s words, “Ahead of the November 8th election, Soludo has clearly lost the confidence of the people of Anambra, and it shows.
“Only a sitting governor who has run out of public goodwill would so openly resort to cash for votes, in direct violation of Sections 121 and 127 of the Electoral Act, which criminalise voter inducement of any form,” he said.
He also described the action of the governor as a new level of desperation wrapped in impunity.
The ADC further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stay alive to its responsibility by taking necessary legal action against the governor.
“This is a new level of desperation, wrapped in impunity, and I hope that INEC is not pretending not to see it,” Abdullahi added.
