APC now a haven for EFCC fugitives – Former SGF Babachir Lawal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and National Vice Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Babachir Lawal, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a “haven for fugitives” fleeing from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Lawal spoke on Saturday during an ADC stakeholders’ meeting in Yola, Adamawa State.

He said both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would be defeated in the 2027 general elections.

“It is my belief that more patriots will soon join us even as the PDP self-destructs and the APC becomes a haven for EFCC fugitives,” he said.

The former SGF accused the ruling party of being “delusional,” claiming that its only political strategy was to manipulate elections.

His words: “The APC’s only mantra is to write election results even before elections begin. This is pure delusion because it will not happen.

“Nigerians will back us to frustrate any criminal manipulation of the 2027 election results.”

Lawal, however, cautioned that not every politician defecting from other parties would be welcomed into the ADC.

“Not everyone will be accepted, lest they corrupt our ideals with attitudes imbibed from their corrupt, undemocratic home parties,” he said.

He described the ADC as a party of “visionaries and patriots” dissatisfied with the current direction of the country under the leadership of the PDP and APC.

“Every patriotic Nigerian now understands that our country has reached the edge of a cliff. The ADC offers Nigerians an opportunity to make a U-turn, recalibrate, and redirect our governance toward a progressive, people-centric system,” he stated.

The former SGF also criticised the Adamawa State government, accusing Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of failing to deliver projects that directly impact citizens.

“All we get from over six years of PDP governance is a couple of flyovers carrying scanty traffic despite billions of naira accruing to the state.

“Sometimes, I wonder whether the money leaves Abuja for Yola at all. Between January and June 2025, the state received N128.81 billion, yet all we have to show are four flyovers and one underpass,” he said.

Lawal expressed confidence that the ADC would produce the next governor of Adamawa State, saying the party had capable individuals to “govern us well.”

He urged party members to mobilise citizens to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), adding that “the safety of the ADC is guaranteed only by having voter cards.”

The chairman of the ADC Transitional Committee, Dadiq Dasin, a former member of the House of Representatives, also expressed optimism that the party would win Adamawa in the next election.

Prominent politicians, including former Governor Jibrilla Bindow, former Senator Abdulaziz Nyako, and Senator Ishaku Abbo, were present at the meeting.
